100% Design Field Trip…

100percent design

PDR’s design team takes a field trip to 100% Design – London.  We’re going to be attending the exhibition looking for trends, great ideas and general design brilliance.  We want to see how the industry is responding to the downturn and see who’s winning at innovation under pressure.

Taking the team out and about feeds our group motivation to design better in more creative ways and to be exposed to the more ecological and philosophical drivers impacting the design community today.  A guaranteed rendezvous will be the legendary Designers Block.  Although we fear this has been subdued to main stream commercialism (being next to 100% Design) – we hope to spot talent and meet the designers who contribute so boldly to our shared creative industry.

See us there or at Fabric – where we will be seeing the night through in true London style.

PDR.

PAIPR featured in MADE magazine

ie4

The activities of PAIPR have recently been featured in an article in the 2.09 Issue of MADE magazine, the magazine for the materials and design exchange. The article discusses the development of the new IE4 prototyping system, recently developed by PAIPR’s Alex Woolley. The IE4 is a wireless Bluetooth device that allows up to 52 digital inputs to be quickly and easily embedded into a prototype. The IE4 translates user input from the device into keyboard presses that can be used to trigger an Adobe Flash interface simulation running on a PC. The main aim of the system is to bridge the knowledge gap that exists when prototyping information appliances and interactive products.

Bringing concepts to life

Bringing Concepts to Life

Bringing concepts to life introduces a new prototyping toolkit, called the I.E5 System, allowing industrial designers to rapidly produce interactive prototypes during the early stages of the design process. The toolkit is intended to require no electronics knowledge to use and to fit seamlessly into existing design practices. It provides designers with a flexible method of prototyping that can be used to produce an easily editable prototype. The development of the toolkit is an on-going project. For further information see : http://doi.acm.org/10.1145/1517664.1517737, for a paper introducing the work, which was published as part of the proceedings for TEi ‘09 conference earlier this year.
